SATs and Teacher Assessment

Dear members,

We had a very good discussion about SATs and Teacher Assessment at our branch meeting last night

It seems clear that the widespread concerns about what is happening with Assessment at KS1 and KS2 give us an opportunity to build a campaign for change and that this is likely to gather pace.

We agreed that we will return to this discussion at our next meeting in a couple of weeks and we have drafted the attached motion about campaigning and a possible boycott for school groups to discuss and bring a report – we have already heard that some heads are supportive.

A couple of things that you, and other colleagues, may find interesting:

i) a link to article on the Cambridge Primary Review website calling for a boycott of SATs

ii) the open letter to Nicky Morgan from a teacher which is getting a lot of publicity

iii) a link to the online petition calling for KS2 SATs to be cancelled which now has over 47,000 signatures and is still growing

iv) contribution to the discussion by Alex Kenny

I hope some of this is helpful.
