The next three weeks are vital for the NUT in terms of public campaigning and mobilising members.
I think the NUT has put itself in a good position with the public-facing Stand Up for Education campaign and also the damage we have caused Gove over the the STRB report and workload survey.
There is a really positive mood across the Union with many members volunteering for campaign activities.
I am attaching a copy of our latest newsletter on the workload survey, which you are welcome to adapt for your association.
There is a very good blog about workload, written by Tom Bennett – I don’t always agree with him but what he has written here will strike a chord with many teachers http://community.tes.co.uk/tom_bennett/b/weblog/archive/2014/03/02/too-busy-to-teach-why-we-39-ve-all-got-work-to-do.aspx#.UxNmSv2aGRM.twitter
So, looking ahead, we have some key dates on which to focus our energies:
SATURDAY MARCH 8th – STREET STALLS
These are going very well and many are planned for this Saturday – there is a lot of support from parents and this does build confidence. Please make sure you are organising these in the run up to the strike and let the NUT know about them – send any photos to email@example.com.
WEDNESDAY MARCH 19th – LONDON RALLY
We need this to be big and lively so we can send a positive message out to the rest of country as we make final preparations for the strike – please encourage reps to come along and bring members from their school. Leaflets have gone to every school and I will bring more to the Div Secs briefing next week.
As well as a great line-up of speakers we want to hear reports from activity and mobilisation across the region – please identify someone from your association who can provide a brief report at the rally.
WEDNESDAY 26th MARCH – STRIKE AND LONDON DEMONSTRATION
All the arrangements are in hand for assembly at BBC Broadcasting House (which is going down well on social media). An A3 poster and postcards of the attached flier should be in schools early next week, and I will also have spares for next Monday and the rally on 19th March.
We will be putting out a call for stewards in a separate e-mail but please do try and identify some people from your association to help out.
