Strike Action at Stem6 Free School
NUT members at Stem6 Academy in Islington, London, suspended their strike action last week following a written commitment from management to recognise the Union and enter into meaningful negotiations. Unfortunately, at the last minute, Stem6 management cancelled the meeting that had been arranged to resolve the dispute, and appear to have reneged on their earlier commitments to recognise the Union and discuss concerns around the contracts being issued to staff. Therefore, the NUT have decided to proceed with the strike action today and tomorrow, as well as on 11, 12, and 13 February next week.
Bob Stapley, Regional Secretary, London NUT, said:
“NUT members are keen for a swift resolution to this dispute so as to minimise any potential disruption to students’ education. The NUT has indicated its willingness to meet with management at the earliest opportunity. We are, therefore, disappointed that the school’s management are unable to make themselves available to meet with us before 13 February, which would be the fifth day of strike action. NUT members hope that the school management may be able to rearrange their diaries and make this meeting a more urgent priority.”
