This week brings action against student debt, cuts to staffing on London Underground, low pay and teachers’ excessive workload. See details below of these and other events throughout February.

Tuesday 4 February
12 noon to 2pm SBJC Stall In support of the UNISON/UNITE/GMB Protest against low pay and service cuts. Outside One Stop Shop/Peckham Library. (see below)

12.30pm. UNISON rally and talking to the public in Peckham. Part of the Local Government Day of Pay Protest – Demand Pay Justice! If you can help, phone Southwark UNISON Branch on 020 7525 6030, or just turn up.

Tuesday 4 February
5-7pm. Right to resist – hands off our student loans! Rally at SOAS JCR,
Featuring: Francesca Martinez (comedian, writer), Clare Solomon (People’s Assembly Against Austerity), Aaron Kiely (NUS Black Students’ Officer), Sean Vernell (UCU) and a SOAS Student Assembly Against Austerity speaker.

4.30am – 7.30am. Picket of Tube depots and stations. Details tba.

Thursday 6 February
8am-11am. Picket-lines outside Universities by lecturers and admin staff in dispute over a 13% pay cut in the past three years and only 1% offered for 2014. Join them: LSBU at Keyworth Street SE1, LCC at Elephant & Castle main entrance, Camberwell College of Art on Peckham Road SE5 8UF.

All Day. Teachers at Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich will be on strike over “the unreasonable frequency of full scale external observations & excessive workload” unless school managers agree to negotiate. Messages of support to: secretary@southwark-and-district.nut.org.uk
