Parents MUST be balloted over academy plans – motion from SERTUC below

Motion on Parental Ballots for Schools converting to academy status.
SERTUC notes
that many of the schools converting to academy status – voluntarily or forced – are doing so without proper consultation of parents
the recent ballot of parents organised by Barking & Dagenham Council

SERTUC believes
that parents should have the final say on the status of their children’s school

SERTUC calls
on any school consulting on academy status – whether by choice or by direction – to hold a ballot of parents
on all Local Authorities in the region to organise parental ballots for all schools converting to academy status
