Dear members

Planning is well under way for the strike, march and rally on 17 October. The march will start from 10:30 at University of London Union in Malet street as last time and there will a rally in a hall at the end.

We URGENTLY need more stewards for the rally. Please let me have the names of volunteers as soon as possible – we need to provide at least 50 stewards on the day.

A briefing for stewards will be held at Upper Hall, University of London Union, Malet Street, London WC1 7HY. If people could arrive for 9.30 that would be great. Tea and coffee will be available from 9am onwards. I have attached details of how to get to Malet Street and a map showing the location of ULU.

We will receive many requests on the day for information about the effectiveness of our action. Please let us have any information you can provide on school closures. Local authority websites will exaggerate the number of schools remaining open and we need to counter this when schools are effectively closed but claim to remain open. Please let us know how many schools will be completely closed, substantially closed (majority of classes cancelled), partially closed or unaffected. If we can have an estimate from you by the 16th that would be much appreciated. please email any updates on the day to

Please let us know if your school will be fully/partially open (are you picketing?) or closed.

Details of a Southwark NUT meet up (at Elephant and Castle) to head to the march together will follow.

Michael Davern

Joint Secretary

Southwark NUT

I look forward to seeing you on the 17th – Look out for the Southwark NUT banner which should be near Sutton NUT/Westminster NUT etc as will be arranged in alphabetical order of London Branches
