Now Gove attacks our working conditions – attend the demo on Tuesday/support the strikes on Thursday

Yesterday Michael Gove published his proposals to the STRB on teachers’ working time and conditions – see attached.
Some of the main things he says which you may wish to draw to the attention of members are:
Heads need more flexibility over length of the school day and term times
Removal of the requirement for PPA to be in blocks of at least thirty minutes.
Removal of reduced timetable for NQTs is unlikely to be problematic.
No evidence that provision for midday break has had either a positive or negative impact.
Removal of provision would enable headteachers to be more flexible in their timetabling.
Heads may find it easier to cuts costs if they can direct teachers to do lunchtime duties
Teaching is the only profession where people are not routinely asked to carry out certain dutiesClearly these are all yet more reasons why we need a good turnout for the march and rally for education next Tuesday.
