The day started with a decision to hear an additional motion on Immigration this afternoon. We then moved into private session and discussed how to organise in difficult times, whilst maintaining a lay led union. We then discussed professional unity with a memorable speech comparing the different unions with different bus companies stating that disunity doesn’t work for teachers in any union. Conference agreed to continue to work for one democratic lay led union.
Then it was time for the Wales session and we heard that Wales is now no longer an educational utopia as SATs are replaced by new formal tests as in England.
We debated the changes to the primary curriculum and vowed to fight for a curriculum that was meaningful, relevant, age appropriate and … FUN!
